Stage 17: Dos Hermanas → Sevilla: Brennan again, and the contest sees double

Matthew Brennan. Again. The British sprinter once more showed his legs between Dos Hermanas and Seville, outsprinting Jordi Meeus and Magnus Cort in a massive sprint to sign what now looks like his personal signature on this Vuelta. Enric Mas had nothing to worry about: the red jersey stays right where it is.

Among the 821 forecasters entered, the "easy" bets hit the mark: 638 had seen that the breakaway wouldn't make it, 631 had ticked the massive sprint, and 650 knew the red jersey wouldn't move. Where it got tricky was on the name of the winner: only 336 had Brennan, less than one player in two among those who dared. And the Franco-Belgian of the day? Jordi Meeus on the podium was far from obvious: only 126 out of 820 had identified him as the best French or Belgian. Among today's sharp-eyed players, Laura Delvaux, Cedric H, zeus, Theo C., ledu11449, Lud Dura, VBertrand, noemdu38877, PapaCrochet, ThibaultMercier, Chrounet, LambertJ, Charlotte and Marie C. had all sensed Brennan's victory: a nice club of 14 clairvoyants in a field of 821.

In today's standings, six players shared the jackpot with 76 points each: BenoMerc, bokaal18, dahu80, DriesVdb, F. Lefebvre and GOGO. The latter takes the opportunity to consolidate his lead in the general standings, which he has led for the 3rd stage, with 558 points and 21 units ahead of Yvette (537 pts, 2nd). BenoMerc achieves the day's impressive comeback with +13 places to climb to 11th place (478 pts), as does Pauline G (+13, 20th, 463 pts), tomtom (+13, 25th, 459 pts). The rocket of the day in the general standings is definitely Tifo: +168 places to land in 273rd place: the best comeback of the stage. In the same momentum, bokaal18 (+157, 236th) and gaudu70083 (+165, 356th) make impressive leaps.

At the top, the battle intensifies: Stijn Will climbs to 3rd place (+1, 509 pts), Florentgirard to 4th (+2, 508 pts), while corsaire drops 4 places to 7th place (489 pts) tied with maxime patin who himself jumps 8 places. SHISHI (+7, 9th) and harryeva (+3, 6th) continue their rise. 28 players didn't score a single point tonight: a small group watching the others celebrate from the roadside.

Finally, Olivier Chaprier, Stéph2, lecoq and lolodu80520 did not make any predictions for this stage.
