Stage 10: Alcaraz → Elche de la Sierra: Tronchon comes out of nowhere, Jules hits the jackpot
Over the 184 hilly kilometers to Elche de la Sierra, the peloton played it safe all the way through: massive sprint, no surviving breakaway, and Bastien Tronchon edging out Magnus Cort and Thibau Nys on the line. Enric Mas keeps his red jersey without flinching.
Only one player out of 805 had Tronchon's name on the tip of their pencil: JulesGravier. One. Single. Out of eight hundred five. And that's not his only feat of the day since he also found the best Franco-Belgian. Same deal for Sander2, Danidavi, Luuk V., Senne Mertens, J. Vermeulen and Nick2 who also sensed that Tronchon would be the best of ours. For the rest, 532 players got the neutralized breakaway right, and 608 had anticipated the status quo in the general classification. But the massive sprint finish type, it only seduced 103 forecasters out of 805: apparently, many had bet on something else.
Best of the stage without question, JulesGravier breaks the meter with 47 points in the day and jumps 355 places to sit in 239th overall. It's the best comeback of this stage 10, and it's well deserved. In his wake, J. Vermeulen scores 28 points, while BenDec, benoit leroy, Danidavi and Gijs7915 share 22 points each.
Overall, Yvette continues to wear the red of this contest with disconcerting regularity: 250 points, 8 stages finished in the lead, and 27 lengths ahead of his pursuers. Behind, it's getting seriously crowded: yanis and Stijn Will both climb 2 places to settle in 2nd and 3rd (223 and 222 pts), while EnzLef and GOGO drop 2 places each. LIPOU climbs 7 places to settle 14th tied with GrandVdb, and Florentgirard makes a nice move by gaining 5 spots to point 7th. Lower in the standings, Dede59 and Pistache jump 9 places up to 18th position, and maxime patin signs the nicest climb of the day among the top 30 with +12 places in a single sprint.
A collective thought for the 88 players who came home empty-handed tonight: Tronchon was really the kind of winner who doesn't give you a heads up.
