Stage 1: Monaco → Monaco (ITT, 9.6 km)
The 2026 Vuelta opens in the heights of the Principality and Tadej Pogačar sets the record straight from the very first second: ruthless time trial, podium locked down ahead of Ethan Hayter and Joshua Tarling, red (and green) jersey on his shoulders before the party even really begins.
Out of 802 participants, only two dared to pick Pogačar as winner: hats off to Olivier Chaprier and nicodu8077, the only two to have had this audacity among 800 ballots. Result, they secure the best stage performances at 22 points each. The "Slovenian nationality" bet was a little more accessible: 83 players ticked it: but the victory by name? Hardly anyone believed in it. For the exact podium (Pogačar, Hayter, Tarling), 120 players out of 802 got it right, which is already pretty good for such a tight opening time trial.
The real surprise comes from the Franco-Belgian side: Christophe Laporte slipped into the lead among the French and Belgians, and six players had predicted it: Juliendubois3973, sven_h, Clem C., Milan M, Cedric-C and EnzoLaFleche each pocket their precious points on this bet that only 6 out of 802 managed.
In the overall contest standings (816 participants in total!), Olivier Chaprier puts on the virtual yellow jersey from this inaugural stage with 27 points, five lengths ahead of nicodu8077 (22 pts, 2nd). Noahgeorges sits in 3rd place (10 pts), followed by Yvette (4th, 9 pts) and a nice group of five tied in 5th position: Cedric-C, Clem C., EnzoLaFleche, Juliendubois3973, Milan M and sven_h at 8 points each.
As for the 611 players who came away empty-handed tonight... welcome to the Vuelta, Spain still has 20 stages left to make a comeback: and the Monaco time trial was frankly tricky for everyone!
